Atkins Underground Digital Twin

Nov#3 Update: Underground Digital Twin, London Crane Survey, Electric Chargers in Homes, Construction Events & Webinars

Atkins to deliver UK digital map of underground utilities

The Government has commissioned Atkins to create The National Underground Asset Register (NUAR), a digital twin of underground assets such as pipes and cables with the purpose of avoiding underground utility damage ‘utility strikes’ due to holes dug in the wrong place costing around £2.4bn each year. A total of 4 million holes are dug in the UK each year, NUAR is expected to save around £350m a year by “avoiding accidental asset strikes, improving the efficiency of works and better data sharing.” Atkins will work with map agency Ordnance Survey and 1Spatial and start in the North Easy, London and Wales.

New Legislation Electric Chargers in All Homes

Electric Car Chargers in All Homes Credit Committee on Climate Change

All new homes will have EV charging points installed by law from next year, the Government has announced. This amounts to 145k new charging points per year. Petrol and diesel cars will be banned by 2030 but currently London & the South East have more electric charging points than the rest of England and Wales combined. In total Britain has 25k charging points but needs 10 times more before 2030. Cars and taxis create 16% of UK emissions. Builders are annoyed because they are to bankroll the new chargers by funding substations costing >£50k for a handful of homes.
