Colas – New Waste Management Plant
Background
Colas Limited operates throughout Great Britain as a service provider to the highways and airfields sectors. As part of the international Colas Group they share the knowledge and resources of one of the world’s leading road construction and maintenance organisations. Their activities include quarrying and coated stone production; bulk and packed bitumen-based product manufacture; civil and electrical engineering; road construction, surfacing and term maintenance.
Colas Limited, the UK operating company of Colas SA (60,000 employees, Euro 9.5 Billion turnover) won their second major contract from Veolia to design and build a new waste transfer facility at Maresfield in East Sussex. The 56-week project was to form a vital link in the East Sussex County Council waste management plan. Colas required fast, high performing internet to support the project onsite and enable communications and connectivity internally as well as between sites and back to head office.
Journey
Colas used the initial period on site to conduct trials of OptiBond, whilst waiting for BT to site survey and then install ADSL lines. The OptiBond appliance uses two independent cellular connections combined to provide redundancy, super-fast download speeds and low latency. Download speeds more than 1.5Mbs and upload speeds of 512Kbs were possible with HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access). The purpose built OptiBond appliance was pre-configured with a secure Virtual Private Network to provide instant secure data connectivity at the remote sites. The fully managed service includes a help desk and remote diagnostics to quickly resolve any networking issues. In the unlikely event of a hardware fault the service includes the supply of a pre-configured replacement appliance, shipped direct to the site. The instant secure data communications was provided on this project for less than £13.00 per day.
“We were looking for a simple to use, robust method of enabling our on site personnel to get online. Based on the reliability and performance of the service, and the very active support shown by EMS, we were happy to move ahead with i-MO” Tony Delaney, UK IT Manager
“The excellent feedback and performance at the trial in Maresfield really demonstrated i-MO at its best. We used data cards from different network providers (both with HSDPA signals) at the same time and by bonding the bandwidth together saw outstanding performance.” Andrew Lambert, MD of EMS
EMS specialises in improving productivity by supplying cost effective, instant secure data connectivity at remote and temporary locations.EMS created OptiBond which simultaneously bonds different cellular networks plus ADSL / satellite. OptiBond is a complete internet solution enabling up to six WAN connections and up to five concurrent VPN connections and operates as a local server to enable printing, file share & network connectivity.
